Love rooftops? Read on.

There’s a reason those of us residing south of the border have a giddy infatuation with Queensland (sorry, Brisbane, we’re not talking about you). The far north of the sunshine state represents everything we pine for in the big city: warm sun, fresh air, clear blue seas, vibrant fresh produce - and most importantly, a sense that time just ticks by a little bit more slowly.

The Streets' first rooftop venue, Untied, takes everything we love about the tropics, and blends it with an urban sleekness that creates a colourful oasis besides Sydney’s most dynamic new workplaces.

The décor, ambiance and attitude is bright, fun and relaxed – everything a bar inspired by North Queensland should be. Untied is an open invitation to leave the world behind and experience a very modern dose of tropical Australia.

“We knew people would love the space immediately, and feel relaxed the moment they arrived on the rooftop”, says Justin Wise, Venue Manager. “We wanted the name to represent that – getting Untied is all about feeling you’re on holiday, escaping the routine of work, kicking off the heels and loosening the neck tie – or better still, removing it completely.”

The mood may be relaxed, but the menu is intelligent, inventive and inspired. Justin and his team have created a delicious diversity that’s both simple and sophisticated, clever and charming.

The Raw Bar pairs impossibly fresh seafood with vibrant, tropical flavours – think Snapper sashimi with finger lime, ginger, chilli and puffed wild rice; or fresh oysters served four ways.

Real substance comes courtesy of a wood-fired grill (after all, it wouldn’t be a slice of Queensland without a barbie).  There are wonderfully tasty creations that hero calamari, ​pork, beef, chicken, octopus and peppers, but the real crowd favourite is the lamb, served with honey, native mint, asparagus, sorrel and goats curd.

Even the ‘snacks’ menu gets creative with a tropical edge. Popcorn prawns with sesame and a smoked crustacean sauce? Yes please. The ​sardines on toast are both fun and fancy.

As you'd expect from a rooftop, just as much action is served in a glass as it is on a plate. And in case you forgot what inspired Untied’s charm, ordering the Australian Antidote – a blend of Bulleit Bourbon, passionfruit syrup, a dash of Pimento bitters and a syringe of honey water – will have you saying “strewth, that’s good!”. A fun, tasty cocktail menu of new inventions and ‘old mate’ classics is robustly supported by a cast of over 80 wines, a contemporary beer list (bottle and tap), and a solid menu of spirits.

Untied is located at Level 4, 400 Barangaroo Avenue. Entry is via the external stairs at Exchange Place (above Joe & The Juice), or via the lift (enter through the sliding doors from The Avenue).
