Sir Richard Branson brings Virgin Active to The Streets

It’s not every day you find one of the world’s most high profile businesspeople in the neighbourhood – so when it happens, you know something big is going down!

Recently, the founder of Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson, paid us a visit to announce Virgin Active as the neighbourhood’s latest health and wellbeing offering.

Due to open in early 2018 at 400 Barangaroo Avenue (the building that’s currently home to Joe & The Juice, The Space Studio and Untied), the Barangaroo club will be a world first concept for Virgin Active globally.

With a floor space of 520 square metres, the venue will operate quite differently to their existing six clubs in Australia, which sit at around 4,500 square metres. Designed with the Barangaroo community in mind, there’ll be a greater emphasis on group exercise classes, providing a short escape for office workers to refresh their bodies and minds, while also allowing for more social interaction in an energetic environment.

For the Virgin Active team, The Streets is a natural fit for their new concept, which complements the existing food and beverage, fashion and lifestyle, and health and wellbeing offerings to add to the holistic worker experience in the neighbourhood. For Sir Richard, the sustainability and innovation initiatives across the precinct also align to his own values (and those of the Virgin Group) – and the Barangaroo club will be aiming for a 6 star Green Star rating and a Platinum WELL building standard.

Sir Richard said: “The approach we’ve taken with this new club is very close to my heart.  My ambition for Virgin to be a force for good is something I challenge the businesses with every day. I personally get involved in many activities and ventures that try to make the world a better place, to try fix the things we as humans are messing up.  The focus on sustainability, people and customers through a club that provides a balanced approach to exercise and wellness, will surely make a great place to work out in.”

Information on classes and memberships will be shared in the coming months – so get ready to get (even more) active!
