Scotch Row, 300 Barangaroo Avenue
If you’re starting to ride the wave of fandom for Vietnamese fare, life is about to get particularly appetising.
Cult-favourite Banh Meats & Co are serving their signature Viet-style sandwiches and salads to The Streets, with a slightly tweaked menu from the original outpost, which has been a huge hit with Sydney foodies.
The premise is the same (and why would you mess with a winning formula anyway?): Choose your bread, choose your protein (fried chicken, smoked beef, or a very tasty crunchy eggplant if you’re going meat-free), and choose the company they keep –
anything from potato gems and a cup of creamy mac-and-cheese, to a ten-pack of chicken wings. If you’re watching the scales, there are low-carb rolls and bowls to use as a base, with lower-cal options such as charred prawns, fish katsu and grilled chicken breast.
There’s even a range of grab-n-go breakfast sambos on the menu if you’re looking to spice things up at the start of the day.
In keeping with the modern take on authenticity, the design mixes black, white and gold with natural textures, and traditional espresso has made way for premium Vietnamese drip coffee, along with a Greek-inspired freddoccino, a macchiato-like iced drink, with both using beans from local roaster Seven Mile Coffee.
